Vascular dementia, also known as "post-stroke dementia" or "multi-infarct dementia," is the second most common type of dementia, accounting for up to 20% of cases. It occurs due to reduced blood flow to the brain, often following a stroke or series of strokes.
Vascular dementia shares risk factors with stroke, such as smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. While there is no cure, early diagnosis and behavioral interventions can prevent further damage.
